Dragon's treasure trove and doughy delights for Year 4!
We began with a game in which a dragon guarded its treasure and a thief attempting to steal it! The blindfolded dragon had to rely on hearing to detect the approaching thief - if the dragon thought it heard the thief, it would point in that direction.
We then learned how to make a clove hitch knot, and concluded the session with homemade dough balls!

Year 9s Figurative Observations to Expression – A Journey in Art and Proportion
Last term, Year 9 pupils immersed themselves in the world of observation and expression, honing their drawing skills through detailed studies of nature. Inspired by the intricate wire sculptures of British sculptor Tony Cragg, they explored the dynamic relationship between form and material, creating their own wire sculptures that capture the essence of the human figure in motion and stillness.
Building on this foundation, the students delved into the study of human proportions, drawing inspiration from the works of celebrated artists Alan Fears and David Hockney. Fears’ powerful use of the human form and Hockney’s vibrant, character-driven colour palettes guided their exploration of how colour can convey emotion and personality. By studying the structure of the human body, the students gained a deeper understanding of proportion, which they applied to create stunning head busts and figurative studies, rendered in coloured pencil and pastel.
Through these projects, Year 9 not only developed their technical skills in observation and proportion but also enhanced their ability as colourists, capturing the character and feeling of their subjects with a newfound sensitivity. The result is a striking collection of works that showcase both the precision of their observations and the depth of their creative expression.
