Well done to the U13B team on their impressive victory last week against a strong Lewes Old Grammar side. It was a thrilling, end-to-end encounter packed with goals and excitement. Shoreham emerged 5鈥�4 winners, with Player of the Match awarded to Bowie, who led by example throughout.

For National Poetry Day 2025, our English lessons focused on the theme of play, exploring its many meanings, from playing with words to the joy of physical play. Students experimented with language and rhythm, discovering how poets use creativity and sound to bring words to life. Year 7 and 8 explored "Word Play" by Michaela Morgan and John Agard鈥檚 鈥淪kipping Rope Spell鈥�, outdoors whilst skipping to its rhythm using its lively energy and movement to think about how poetry can capture the fun and rhythm of games and playground chants. Year 9 and 10 also studied Inua Ellams鈥� 鈥淪ummit of Flight鈥�, reflecting on his love for basketball, his mother's loathing of it and how play can be imaginative and aspirational, linking to ideas of creativity, freedom, and expression. Students then wrote their own poems, experimenting with sound, repetition, and imagery to celebrate the spirit of play in all its forms. Food for thought: "Is a cat flap, a worried cat all in a flap?!" and do we have what it takes to be 'A lone star, out on a limb, brighter for all the empty darkness around it?"

What a great start to GCSE rock climbing. All the pupils reached the top of the walls, showing confidence on the wall. Effort was superb, some engaging in speed climbing. Next week will involve learning to tie in and belay each other.

Another harvest celebration, another outstanding effort by our Year 5 pupils! Our collection of vegetable heads continued to amaze the school community this Thursday, as 福利姬 Juniors celebrated Harvest Festival. Amongst the weird and wonderful creations this year were an award-winning turtle with a shell of courgette, a quite remarkable parrot with a pineapple hair do, and even King Henry the 8th and all of his wives in pumpkin form! Teachers and pupils alike came to check out our vegetable head display and as always, were blown away by the quality of what our Year 5 pupils had produced. Along with the vegetable heads, our Junior School also provided a generous food collection which was donated to the Emmaus centre; thank you to everyone who contributed.

A fantastic week of sport at 福利姬 with lots of pupils making their debut appearance. We are so proud of all of our athletes and well done to all those who were awarded player of the match.

As part of their history topic on Castles, Year 6 visited Bramber castle earlier in the week. Using the display boards and their observational skills, the Year 6 pupils answered questions and pondered the question why a castle was built there in the first place. The challenge of the morning was climbing the steep hill called a motte in the middle of the ruins. The weather was lovely and they all had a great time. #brambercastle
